Helping to Fund the Path to Independence

THE HOMELESS ASSISTANCE FUND, INC. (HAFI) is a private, independent foundation that funds the removal of barriers that prevent homeless individuals and families from accessing permanent housing. HAFI makes grants to homeless service providers who offer programs and projects that help homeless individuals and families become self-sufficient, with the focus of moving their clients into permanent housing.

In recognition of the significant challenges resulting from the pandemic, during Spring 2021, HAFI will not launch a new grantmaking cycle. Rather, we will provide one-year extension funding for existing grantees. These extensions will support grantees' work from July 2021-June 2022.

HAFI receives 2020 Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships!

HAFI has been recognized as one of seven recipients of the 2020 Secretary’s Award for Public- Philanthropic Partnerships. This national program, a partnership between the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Council on Foundations, recognizes excellence in partnerships that transform the relationships between the sectors and lead to measurable benefits in housing and community development, including housing access for low-income families.
Since 2005, HAFI has invested $2.89 million in high capacity, homeless service providers in Philadelphia, enabling 1,850 households to transition from homelessness to permanent housing, and supporting over 700 formerly homeless individuals to obtain employment.
